The chili grenade

Did you read this story about the world's hottest chili being made into grenades to fight terrorism? I thought it was a joke but apparently it's not!

The world's hottest chili, the bhut jolokia or ghost chili, is grown in India and has a Scoville unit (the way they measure the heat of the chili) of 1,000,000 units. Compare that to Tabasco sauce which ranges from 2500 to 5000 units and jalapeno peppers which range from 2500 to 8000 units. Do you have an idea of how hot this chili is now? Crazy hot. I can't believe people can even eat them! But then again I think the mild sauce at Taco Bell is a little too hot for me. I'm a wimp when it comes to hot stuff.
"The chili grenade has been found fit for use after trials in Indian defense laboratories, a fact confirmed by scientists at the Defense Research and Development Organization," Col. R. Kalia, a defense spokesman in the northeastern state of Assam, told The Associated Press.

"This is definitely going to be an effective nontoxic weapon because its pungent smell can choke terrorists and force them out of their hide-outs," R. B. Srivastava, the director of the Life Sciences Department at the New Delhi headquarters of the DRDO said.
I have to admit that I NEVER would have thought of making a weapon out of a chili but I think it would definitely work!

Natural tear gas anyone.

Just think, we can riot when we make relenos and get automatic spicing! {*grin*}

And for those of us that take chili capsules for medical purposes, we could just take one pill a month1

I LOVE this! How on earth do you find that stuff, Kathy? I think it's wonderful and I think it's great to use Mother Nature's weapons. I believe in the Indian ways of finding what you need in Nature. If we only cooperated better with nature and wildlife, we'd have it made!
Doris :-)
p.s. I'm going to e-mail you a "hot chili joke" so get ready!
