Did you read this story about the world's hottest chili being made into grenades to fight terrorism? I thought it was a joke but apparently it's not!
The world's hottest chili, the bhut jolokia or ghost chili, is grown in India and has a Scoville unit (the way they measure the heat of the chili) of 1,000,000 units. Compare that to Tabasco sauce which ranges from 2500 to 5000 units and jalapeno peppers which range from 2500 to 8000 units. Do you have an idea of how hot this chili is now? Crazy hot. I can't believe people can even eat them! But then again I think the mild sauce at Taco Bell is a little too hot for me. I'm a wimp when it comes to hot stuff.
I have to admit that I NEVER would have thought of making a weapon out of a chili but I think it would definitely work!"The chili grenade has been found fit for use after trials in Indian defense laboratories, a fact confirmed by scientists at the Defense Research and Development Organization," Col. R. Kalia, a defense spokesman in the northeastern state of Assam, told The Associated Press.
"This is definitely going to be an effective nontoxic weapon because its pungent smell can choke terrorists and force them out of their hide-outs," R. B. Srivastava, the director of the Life Sciences Department at the New Delhi headquarters of the said.
