Halloween prank turns deadly

I was reading a story just a little while ago that really broke my heart. It happened pretty close to home too. Just down the road in Atlanta.

It didn't just break my heart. It made me mad too. Because it was senseless.

A day we can't forget

I'm writing this at nearly 10:00 p.m. on September 10, 2010. When I get out of bed in the morning, it will have been 9 years since the bombing of the Twin Towers.

I remember clearly where I was when I heard the news. I was sitting in my car waiting for my obstetrician to open so that I could have my check up. Sadly, a little over a month later, I was no longer pregnant and my son was dead.

September 11, 2001 was a devastating day for me personally and for our country. I try to keep my political views to myself, but thinking about that day and thinking about the state our country is in today, I can't help but be scared for our future.

You're not supposed to eat that

Pretty isn't he? And sweet looking. Doesn't look like any trouble at all. Chewing happily on some bamboo. Bamboo is the food of choice for giant panda's you know. They rarely eat anything else.

Well. They will eat honey. And eggs. And sometimes fish. And oranges and bananas if they can find them. But their main diet is bamboo. If they're really hungry they might eat some bones.

A giant panda in China was found doing just that. Apparently he was starving and came down from the mountain to find food. He ended up at a pig farm and was found in the pig pen chewing on the bones that were left for the pigs. He didn't care for the meat. He spit that out.

I really feel very sorry for the panda that made the trip down the mountain. Giant pandas are on the endangered species list. There are believed to be around 1600 of them living in the mountains of southwest China.

I think that there should be some sort of program to help feed them in their natural habitat. We feed everything/one else it seems like. Why can't we help them? 1600 is not very many when you think about the big picture. In China alone there are 1.3 BILLION people. Surely a few of them could help their national icon.

I may be absent for a bit, I may not (plus a note to Pammie & Mary lol)

Ok, as those of you that follow my Happy At Home blog already know, I may be gone for a little bit. The internet may be gone that is. If that happens, I will post at least once a week from the library. If it doesn't, you might be able to hear me screaming with joy all the way to your house :D

Either way, don't forget me!! I definitely won't forget you ♥

Now, my note to my sissy Pammie and my dear friend Mary:

I LOVE Adam & his voice & that song!!!! :) I just was a little bored with him wandering around an empty apartment. I wanted to see him "rock my world" ya know ;)

LOL

K, that's it. Hopefully I'll see y'all tomorrow but if not, you at least know why now.

It's just too sad for me

I've been keeping up with all the news on Haiti since the tragic earthquake the other day and I've been thinking about writing about it but honestly it's too much for me. It's just heartbreaking. If you'd like to read the latest news you can click here. I'm praying for them.

For those of you here on Blogger, they added a widget this morning that links you up with the Red Cross to aid Haiti. I added that widget to the top of my sidebar. Please help if you can.

In other news, soul singer Teddy Pendergrass passed away on the 13th. He had colon cancer and had been hospitalized. He was 59. May he rest in peace.

Now THAT'S better

I was scanning the news stories a little while ago and it seemed like all I saw was bad. First case of highly drug-resistant TB found in US. Seniors worry about Medicare Advantage cuts. Jon Gosselin's NYC Apartment Ransacked. Weapon Involved in Charlie Sheen Domestic Dispute. It made me really sad.

I was about to just give up on the news for the night when a different kind of story jumped out at me. It made me feel a little better about the world.

It started out sad but it ended up warming my heart.

A woman in Italy went to retrieve the Christmas gifts she had hidden for her two toddler daughters and found they had been stolen out of the basement. Frantic, she rushed around town trying to buy new gifts from gas stations. She didn't want them to wake up on Christmas morning and not have anything under the tree. When the police found out what happened, they contacted a toy store owner in a nearby town. He opened his store at 4:00 a.m. just so the lady could get her daughters new gifts.

I hope they caught the low down thief that would steal presents on Christmas Eve and I hope they treat the toy store owner like a hero. If you ask me, that's exactly what he is.
