People are crazy

Saturday our town had their annual Christmas parade. The parade was scheduled to start at 4:00 so we got out there about 2:00. You might think we were the crazy ones for going so early, but by the time 4:00 came around, we were completely blocked in.

About an hour into our wait, people were really getting weird. We saw several almost wrecks and tempers were flaring. Fists were popping out of windows and curse words were in the air. There's nothing like a parade to whip people into a frenzy!

Sitting in our nice, safe spot just off the road, we watched as people tried to jump into traffic after cutting through the parking lot we were in.

Suddenly, a little black...something (I think it was a Neon) came speeding through the lot and bolted into traffic almost hitting a bus that slammed on his brakes to avoid the accident. Tires were squealing, horns were honking and people were screaming. I held my breath.

There was a very heated exchange between the bus driver & the car driver. I could see a fist shaking in the wide front window of the bus, threatening to punch the driver of the car. A head popped out of the window of the car and he began screaming such nice things as "Bring your ass on out of there and I'll show you!" and "Stupid, crazy, mother f****r". I think my jaw was on my chest. If any flies had been buzzing around in the 30° air, they would have had a nice, warm place to land.

Then it was all over. The cars tires peeled out and he was in front of the bus, speeding down the road. The bus started moving again. That's when I saw the back of the bus. And I practically died laughing. I jumped out of my car and snapped a picture for you:

I tried to zoom in for you but all it did was make it blurry....Maybe you can still read it...

Not only were they "insain", they were bad spellers too.

You know your TV needs to go away when...

You get so mad at a TV show that you shoot the television set.

(Pauses to let that sink in...)

Yeah, that's right, a man in Wisconsin shot his TV. Just got out his shotgun and blew it away. Why? Because he was mad that Bristol Palin, the daughter of politician Sarah Palin, is still dancing on ABC's hit show "Dancing With The Stars".
When Palin, the 20-year-old daughter of tea party favorite Sarah Palin, began her routine, Cowan jumped up and began swearing, saying something like "The (expletive) politics." His wife said he was upset that a political figure's daughter was dancing on TV even though he felt she didn't have talent.
Then he left the room, got his gun, came back ""raging" with his face bright red, and blasted the TV". His wife ran to a lawyer's office and called the police. Why she didn't just go to the police station is another thing that makes me say huh? about this story, but then again, these are TV shootin' kind of folks.

Did I say another thing that makes me say huh??

Yeah, I did.

The other moments I had to stop and think about:

1. He shot his TV because a politician's daughter was on a show? I very rarely discuss politics. I pretty much keep my opinions on that subject to myself. There are a lot of crazy people involved in politics. And even crazier ones that get very loud about their political opinions. Apparently there are crazy ones that will shoot TV's over politics too. I really don't want any part of that kind of crazy, thank you very much.

2. It's a reality TV show right? I love my reality TV. Y'all know Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race & Hell's Kitchen are on my never-miss-it-list. But I don't watch "Dancing With The Stars" (don't hate me DWTS fans!) and have no idea if Bristol Palin can dance or not. I just can not imagine flipping out over a TV show. I mean, if I shot my TV because Johnny Fairplay lied about his grandma, I would never get to see Jeff busting him out on the finale.

3. He shot his TV?? TV's are expensive these days. Ours is being paid in installments. I ain't shootin' that sucker before it's paid off!

Ut oh, I sounded like a shootin' the TV kind of gal in that last part. Maybe I better hush before I start raging & shoot my computer!

Crazy? Adventure? Life? Yep, sounds about right.

Life really has been a crazy adventure lately. Mostly I've enjoyed it. A lot. All the doctor visits? Not so much. If you're interested in my personal life, you can click here to catch up with that stuff.

For now let me just tell you that my DVR is full. When I get caught up on Survivor and Hell's Kitchen, I'm sure I'll be talking about it here.

And if you follow my other blogs, then you know that I've been changing things up on them. Change will be happening here too...and probably soon. We'll just have to wait and see how crazy life gets between now and then. Just know that change is coming. And I think you'll like it.

I hope all of you are doing well. Hopefully I'll be able to visit your blogs soon. Have a great weekend everyone!

Slowly but surely

Our schedule has been...hectic. Yes, that's an excellent word for it. Hectic. We did take a little time off and went to the beach for a day. It was great! I need about 2 or 300 more days like that.

I know I've really sucked at both reading and writing in my blogs lately. I hate that because I love my blogs and your blogs. But eventually maybe things will settle down enough for me to get back to my loves.

For now I just keep on dreaming about that one day...

The sunrise...

The lighthouse...

The cats across the street from the lighthouse...

The seagulls...

The ocean...

And America's coldest beer*

Aah, good times.

*Since I didn't drink any, I can't tell you if Benny's does indeed have America's coldest beer but I think he deserves the title just for the artwork on the door. And the fact that he has bicycle parking. That just rocks.

Check out those paws

Did you read the story about Oscar the cat from London that got a pair of bionic rear paws? The 2 1/2 year old cat got caught in a combine harvester and lost half his rear legs. The vet outfitted him with the $2996 bionic paws (that doesn't include the cost of the operation) and now he's living life more normally again. How crazy is that?? And why can't they do that for people? It's a real hmmm moment for me. How about you?

I don't see how it could work

Hey guys! Just a short note before I get into what I want to talk to you about today. I realize not everyone that visits me here visits me on my Happy At Home blog aka my me blog, so you wouldn't know what my blogging plans have come to be.

I've decided that I am only able to blog once a week for the time being. Well, actually twice a week but the first bit of time I have available I've designated as reading time. So I will be by to read your blogs on Friday's and I will be here to write my blogs on Saturday's. Once I get more time I'll be able to go back to my regular reading everyday, writing everyday schedule but for now that's just impossible.

Ok, enough rambling. On to what I wanted to talk about.

Did you read the story about the candidate that wants to replace Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor of California and the crazy idea that he has?

Douglas R. Hughes says that if he's elected governor he wants to rid society of pedophiles. That's a great thing by itself but it's how he wants to do it that I find crazy. He wants to set up an island and put them all on it. He even has a name for it, Pedophile Island.

He says pedophiles and sex offenders have three options: life in prison, get out of California and never return or live on Pedophile Island with other people of their kind.

He even has a type of society in mind to set up for them...

The first pedophiles sent to the island will be "a lead team" made up of pedophile police, pedophile fire personnel, pedophile judges, and pedophile forest rangers, among others. They will create what he calls the island's "master plan," which will include building a city hall, medical facility and other needs for the community.

They will also write the Pedophile Island Constitution.
He has a website all set up that goes into detail of his plans if he is elected. The header says "Why I Need Your Vote. Pedophile Removal Stops Child Rape. My Promise To The People Of California."

Here are my issues with his idea..

Does he believe that only men molest and rape our children? I hate to tell him that there are women guilty of this horrible crime too. So does he want it to be a coed society?

If he does, is he going to require that everyone sent to the island be sterilized so that they can no longer have children? If they are able to have children they will and then what does he want to do with the children born on the island? Leave them there to become victims or put them into an already overwhelmed system that can't find homes for the thousands of children currently up for adoption?

It's an island not a prison. How does he expect to keep the people there? People brave the ocean everyday to get to the United States. What's to stop someone from swimming back to California?

He wants to give them the option of leaving California forever. Well gee thanks Mr. Hughes. I guess California is the only state you care about. Just send them around to the other states and let us deal with them. We obviously don't matter to you. I hope your political aspirations don't reach beyond California otherwise you may be pretty unpopular after this.

Your site says that you will set up the island to be completely self sufficient including farming to provide food. So does that mean that you'll be providing the weapons necessary to kill the animals they're supposed to eat? How about kitchen utensils needed to cook the food such as knives? Do you think that a group of people, of armed people, no, make that armed mentally ill people, can't get together and decide that they want to come back and punish people for the way they've been exiled? I bet they could. History tells us that people have fought with much less. Fought and killed. There's a great idea. Arm them and keep them 22 miles off the coast of California.

I just don't believe this idea is very well thought out and I doubt very seriously that it could ever work. I could be wrong. I have been before but I just don't think I am. What do YOU think?

Toys have come a long way

I found this video of a commercial from the 1960's. According to Wikipedia, The Swing Wing was sold in 1965 and was recalled "due to injury suffered in the necks of children caused by the continual jerking motions required to use the toy". Ya think? And really, were kids this easily entertained back then? My kids would have laughed in my face if I'd tried to give them this toy!

Maybe they should get hazzard pay

It seems like people just can't get what they want from McDonald's anymore. I told you a while back about a woman that called 911 because her McDonald's was out of Chicken Mcnuggets.

Then on January 1st of this year, a Toledo woman got irate because she couldn't get her Mcnuggets either. She got so mad that she punched the drive-thru worker in the face, tried to pull the manager out of the drive-thru window and then punched and shattered the window before she drove off. She was, of course, arrested.

Then today I came across another story about McDonald's. A woman in Kansas City Missouri decided to tear up her local McDonald's because she didn't like her hamburger. She caused thousands of dollars worth of damage. Because she didn't like her hamburger. McDonald's employees offered to make her hamburger again but she refused. She wanted her money back (which I think they should have given her; what is it? 89 cents? At the most it's $3.00) but they wouldn't give it to her so instead she trashed the place. Police released a video (which I got off You Tube) of her rampage.

She must seriously like her hamburgers.

Joaquin getting weirder and weirder

Has Joaquin Phoenix lost his mind?

If you don’t know, Joaquin Phoenix has quit acting and gone into the hip-hop business. After performing in Walk the Line, a film about the life and times of Johnny Cash, Joaquin says he was inspired to be a singer. But not a country singer as he portrayed; a rap/hip-hop performer.

His appearances in the public eye have become more and more bizarre. His David Letterman appearance was beyond odd even for that show. We’re all used to seeing odd people on David Letterman’s Late Show but this was a little more than normal.

Then this past Wednesday night/early Thursday morning during his performance at Miami’s Fontainebleau Beach hotel he was beyond bizarre.

Hundreds of people crowded into the club at the hotel to see Phoenix perform. They waited nearly 4 hours before he walked out on stage at 2:00 a.m., smoking a cigarette. He was rapping when an audience member began heckling him at which point he leaped off the stage shouting “We have a **** in the audience” (I would tell you what he actually said but the Yahoo story is edited…I can imagine the actual words though, how about you?) Security guards immediately jumped into the crowd, breaking up the fight and dragging Phoenix away.

Isn’t that crazy?! I just don’t understand what is going on with him. I used to be so impressed with him and now I just don’t get him. At all. I want my old Joaquin Phoenix back.
