My husband thinks I'm crazy

So we had another one of our odd conversations yesterday. Instead of telling you in typed words, I decided to go high tech and let some very talented animations tell you in their our words.

We really are weird like this. You would like us.

You know your TV needs to go away when...

You get so mad at a TV show that you shoot the television set.

(Pauses to let that sink in...)

Yeah, that's right, a man in Wisconsin shot his TV. Just got out his shotgun and blew it away. Why? Because he was mad that Bristol Palin, the daughter of politician Sarah Palin, is still dancing on ABC's hit show "Dancing With The Stars".
When Palin, the 20-year-old daughter of tea party favorite Sarah Palin, began her routine, Cowan jumped up and began swearing, saying something like "The (expletive) politics." His wife said he was upset that a political figure's daughter was dancing on TV even though he felt she didn't have talent.
Then he left the room, got his gun, came back ""raging" with his face bright red, and blasted the TV". His wife ran to a lawyer's office and called the police. Why she didn't just go to the police station is another thing that makes me say huh? about this story, but then again, these are TV shootin' kind of folks.

Did I say another thing that makes me say huh??

Yeah, I did.

The other moments I had to stop and think about:

1. He shot his TV because a politician's daughter was on a show? I very rarely discuss politics. I pretty much keep my opinions on that subject to myself. There are a lot of crazy people involved in politics. And even crazier ones that get very loud about their political opinions. Apparently there are crazy ones that will shoot TV's over politics too. I really don't want any part of that kind of crazy, thank you very much.

2. It's a reality TV show right? I love my reality TV. Y'all know Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race & Hell's Kitchen are on my never-miss-it-list. But I don't watch "Dancing With The Stars" (don't hate me DWTS fans!) and have no idea if Bristol Palin can dance or not. I just can not imagine flipping out over a TV show. I mean, if I shot my TV because Johnny Fairplay lied about his grandma, I would never get to see Jeff busting him out on the finale.

3. He shot his TV?? TV's are expensive these days. Ours is being paid in installments. I ain't shootin' that sucker before it's paid off!

Ut oh, I sounded like a shootin' the TV kind of gal in that last part. Maybe I better hush before I start raging & shoot my computer!

Halloween laws

Trick or Treat (TV series)Image via Wikipedia
Did you know that in most places in the United States, on Halloween, children may only “trick-or-treat” from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and if Halloween falls on a Sunday, they must “trick-or-treat” on October 30 during this same time interval?

Yep, it's true. Read on to see some other Halloween & rest-of-the-year weird laws I found...

From my backyard

Y'all know how much I love odd news. You know what's better than odd news? Odd news that happens in the county I live in! The following stories were reported in the Barrow Journal (my sarcastic replies thoughts are in italics):

Barrow County Court HouseImage via Wikipedia

Man threatens men who got him out of jail

Two men contacted authorities after the man they bonded out of jail threatened them.

The men said they went to the Barrow County Detention Center to bond Randy Burton out of jail. Burton had been arrested after a fight which took place on July 28.

As soon as the paperwork was completed, Burton met the two men in the lobby of the jail.

According to the men, Burton said “I will kill you both and take a bat to you.”

The men said Burton continued to yell and said they would both “get what’s coming to you.”

Both men said they felt threatened by the comments.

Warrants were issued for Burton’s arrest.

1. You should have known he has anger issues since he was arrested for fighting.

2. Dude. You were in the lobby of the jail...hello? At least wait until you get home to threaten someone's life.

Bear found on deck, goat missing

A man contacted the Sheriff’s Office after a close encounter with a bear.

The man said his dogs were acting “crazy,” so he opened the back door to let them go outside. When he opened the door, he noticed a black bear walking up his staircase to the back deck.

The man said he quickly closed the door.

The deputy found tracks in the back yard which appeared to have been made by a large animal. The deputy searched the property, but did not find the bear.

The complainant further advised that a neighbor’s goat had gone missing a few days earlier.

1. "He quickly closed the door." I'm right there with ya buddy!

2. A neighbor's goat had gone missing....mmm hmm, that was a hungry bear!

Red haired lady targets clothing store

A deputy was dispatched to a Loganville Highway clothing store in response to a complaint by a sales associate.

The sales associate said a red haired lady comes into the store on Fridays with her two small children.

The children are allowed to make a mess in the store while the red haired lady tries on clothes.

The sales associate said sometimes the woman buys clothes, but often she does not. The associate said she has entered the dressing room several times after the red-haired woman has been there and found store security tags on top of the partition.

When asked why she had not called 911 before to report the shoplifting, the associate said it was against store policy to prosecute shoplifters.

The associate requested that a deputy occasionally walk through the store on Friday evenings.

1. Using your children as a distraction? That's either genius or insane. I'm voting for insane but I'm right on the fence...

2. It's against store policy to prosecute shoplifters??? I bet Target is super happy that that got published!

3. You should never trust a mysterious red haired lady...wait, my hair is red...but I'm not mysterious so I think I'm safe!

Have a great day everyone!

Check out those paws

Did you read the story about Oscar the cat from London that got a pair of bionic rear paws? The 2 1/2 year old cat got caught in a combine harvester and lost half his rear legs. The vet outfitted him with the $2996 bionic paws (that doesn't include the cost of the operation) and now he's living life more normally again. How crazy is that?? And why can't they do that for people? It's a real hmmm moment for me. How about you?

Obsession for Jaguars

Er, um, I mean Obsession for Men.

Well, it COULD be called Obsession for Jaguars. The signature Calvin Klein cologne is being used by biologists in Guatemala to attract jaguars in order to observe and track them. Really, it is.

"The method we are using to study the jaguars here in Guatemala is a non-invasive method which is based on photographing the individuals by using camera traps," Moreira told Reuters Television.
"It has been very useful using Obsession (for Men) to get the jaguars in front of these camera traps ... and that allows us to estimate with greater confidence the genders and the numbers that live in each studied site."
The big cats love of the scent was first discovered at the Bronx Zoo in New York where they wanted to capture their tigers on camera. The experiment was so successful that the cologne is now being used around the world to attract big cats.

I don't know about you, but I think that's pretty cool. It's also a little scary.. that is, if you're a man (or with a man) wearing that cologne and you are at the zoo, a circus or in the jungle. In that case, you might end up seeing more of the big cat then you planned!

A hodgepodge of subjects

I'm throwing myself back into the blogging world today. That means a couple of things.

1. It means that I haven't talked to you about much lately

and

2. It means that I have several things that I want to talk to you about.

I figure the best way to do that is just to do it. So... you're getting a random assortment of things that pop into my head this morning. I'm sorry ahead of time.

Do you know who Chace Crawford is? Me either. I guess he's an actor but honestly I've never heard of him. He made it onto E! Online for being busted for smoking pot outside of a club. I wasn't really interested in the story but I had a little time to kill so I read it.

I'm also a link addict (I bet you already knew that about me) and I'm pretty nosy, so when I got to the link that said View the police report I had to click it. Was I surprised? Yep. Wanna know why? Ok, I'll tell you.

You can read all the dudes personal information! No lie. It's a PDF document and if you make it just a little bigger you can read his address, his social security number and his phone number. Actually, you didn't even have to make it bigger to read the phone number. They did a horrible job blacking out the stuff most people don't want to be public information PLUS they didn't even bother to black out his drivers license number. Wow.

(OK, I know you're dying to look for yourself so go ahead and click the link above and I'll wait for you...)

See? That just totally blows me away. They had no regard for this guys privacy. (Yes, I realize that it's hypocritical of me to say that when I myself have posted a link to the report. I apologize for that.) I hope he doesn't get a bunch of crazies showing up at his house and/or ringing his phone off the hook but I bet he has.

Speaking of crazy (how do you like that segue?), what is up with all this Gary Coleman drama? He was married. He was divorced. They were going to get remarried. This guy is in charge of his will. That guy is in charge of his will. There is a secret will. His parents want to bury him. His ex-wife wants to bury him. Nobody is going to bury him. Pictures were allegedly taken of his dead body and are now up for sale. Please. Just let the poor guy rest in peace already.

Charlie Sheen agreed to go to jail for assault but decided at the last minute that they needed to go over "some of the finer points of the plea deal". What? Did the jail cell not meet Hollywood standards? That's just ridiculous to me. I don't care who you are, if you commit a crime you should go to jail. End of story.

Alright, I only have one more thing I want to mention. It's disgusting though so if you want to leave me now I'll understand. You have a great day and I'll see you soon.

Still here? Wow, you're brave!

I warned you though.

A man in Wisconsin was arrested for stealing dirty diapers. He said he wanted them. He broke into a home for the sole purpose of stealing diapers to wear. He was sentenced to 30 months of probation and 200 hours of community service. He also has to have a psycho-sexual examination. Psycho-sexual? Well, if you get off on wearing dirty diapers you're definitely psycho. I say give him a job in sanitation and that way he can have free access to all the crap he wants.

The toilet paper thief

Photobucket

I bet you think this is going to be a story about someone stealing toilet paper. Or maybe someone using all the toilet paper and not replacing it. Nope. But it is about toilet paper.

A man in Lincoln Nebraska decided he wanted to rob a local convenience store. Of course to do that he needed a disguise. What could be better than toilet paper to disguise your identity right?

He wrapped his head in the toilet paper, armed himself with a knife and robbed the store on Saturday night. He then ran away on foot with his loot. He hasn't been captured yet. You would think they could follow his paper trail...

Don't mess with me!

I have a snake and I'm not afraid to use it!

Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Well a South Carolina man didn't think so. After an argument over his music being too loud in his hotel room, he decided to show the complaining man that he meant business. He hit him in the head with his 4-foot python. You've just been snake slapped!

He was arrested but not before making sure his snake was safe with family members. Shouldn't the snake be in police custody too? It was the weapon after all. That makes it evidence. At least I think so.

Oops!

The police are chasing you! Where should you go? Oh, look! There's a fence! Get over it quick! Oops...dang.

It's a prison yard.

Yep. That's just what a dumb criminal in Cleveland did. After leading police through a suburb and several communities the goober decided to exit his car and jump a fence to try to escape. The fence surrounded a state women's prison. I bet that was a shock to him!

He was arrested and so were his buddies that were with him. He deserves this award...

Should have invested in the turbo...

Or stayed in the hospital.

A man in Pennsylvania that had just been released from the hospital should have just stayed where it was safe. He either has the worst luck I can think of or, um, possibly he was hit in the head...

Let me fill you in and you tell me what you think.

He was in the hospital because he got into a domestic dispute and was hit with a frying pan and a table leg....ouch.

He went to Wal-Mart to get his prescriptions filled but didn't have the money for them so he called an ex-girlfriend who agreed to pay for them....ok, that was nice.

He didn't bother to change out of his hospital gown and went to Wal-Mart wearing the thing....do you feel a draft?

He decided he wanted the $50 worse than the medicine and snatched it out of the ex-girlfriends hand....hello? She was willing to pay $50 for your medicine, don't you think she would have loaned you a few bucks?

He decided the fastest way to escape was riding one of those Wal-Mart motorized shopping carts....yeah. Have you seen those things in action? I think their top speed is 5 mph. I chose to go through the store on crutches once (even though I was offered one of those carts) because it was faster.

Now he's in jail...

And doesn't have a lawyer....Way to go dude. I hope the few minutes you had the $50 in your hand was worth it.

Have you seen this goat?

For several days now I’ve been following a story out of Nigeria. It seems there was an attempted armed robbery and they’ve nabbed one of the suspects. He’s around 3 feet tall and probably weighs 65 pounds and is covered in fur. Yes, he’s a goat.

Nigerian police are holding the black and white farm animal on suspicion of attempted armed robbery. There was no mention of bale. Er, uh, I mean bail.

A group of vigilantes that I guess were wandering the streets came upon two men attempting to break into a Mazda. The men took off running, the vigilantes chased them. One of the men got away. The other one turned into a goat.

Yes, I said turned into a goat. Witchcraft is widely believed in in Nigeria and the vigilantes insist that they cornered one of the suspects and he magically transformed himself into a goat in order to escape being caught as a man.

The police did say that they can’t base their case on magic. But they do have the goat in custody. I’m interested in seeing how this case will end. Will the goat turn back into a man? Or will he be tried as a goat? Either way I hope the cell he’s being kept in is escape proof. Goats are notorious for being able to escape from their pens.

It brings new meaning to Mad Cow

You’re casually riding your bike through a beautiful park in Colorado. You’re following the trail enjoying the scenery… Uh oh look out! There’s a killer cow!

It sounds crazy but it’s a true story. A lady was riding her bike through Boulder Open Space and Mountain Park when a cow crossed her path. She stopped, allowing the cow room to cross in front of her. The cow had other ideas. He knocked her off her bike and then stepped on her legs.

A park ranger found the woman injured on the path. She told him what had happened. The cow was searched for but had left the area by the time other rangers arrived. A warning to bikers and hikers was issued.

The open space of Marshall Mesa is leased by ranchers that use the land as a grazing area for their livestock. Witnesses that saw the attacking cow say it appeared to have an injured leg. The cows owner was notified.

Jason Vogel, vice president of the Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance, was quoted in a Daily Camera’s Boulder & county news story as saying this attack was “odd, rare and random” although there was another cow attack in the same area in 2003. In that attack a woman was rammed three times and her pelvis was fractured by a grazing momma cow that felt threatened by the cyclist that was too close to her calf for comfort (say that fast three times).

I adore cows. Seriously. If you have any doubt just look at my email address. That will show you how much of a cow lover I am. I’ve collected cow ‘things’ for years and have taken more than my share of pictures of them in fields and on farms.

I’ve never had one attack me though. No charging, angry cows tried to knock me over and then step on me. For a brief moment I thought “Well, maybe it was because of the baby…” but no, there have been plenty of calves present when I was around the cows I’ve come in contact with.

The lady in this bike attack just had a stroke of bad luck in my opinion. Call it cowincidence that this was the second cow attack in the area. Just an incidental ocowrence. Ok, ok. I’ll be good. I couldn’t help it. This story just mooved me.

Where are my crackers...

Yesterday I did my grocery shopping as I mentioned on my Happy At Home site. Then this morning, browsing through the headlines as usual, I came across this story from Irvine, California.

It seems a family did a little shopping in their local grocery store where they bought a box of crackers. Upon returning home they discovered an envelope in the box of crackers. Inside the envelope were one hundred crisp $100 bills.

Now I can imagine the shock on the mothers face when her daughter brought her the envelope filled with money. And I can also imagine the thoughts that would be in my head. Maybe the store was giving away a prize. Maybe it’s my lucky day. Maybe somebody was hiding the money for someone else…

It turns out an elderly Lake Forest lady had decided the box of crackers was a safer place for her money than the bank. She then inadvertently returned the wrong box of crackers to her grocery store in Tustin. Frantic she went back to the store but her crackers were gone.

Then in an odd and a little disturbing twist, the crackers were put back out for sale in the Irvine store where the unsuspecting family bought the woman’s life savings.

I can’t begin to imagine how a store would resell a returned food item but thankfully this time they did. And luckily an honest person found the money and it was returned to the rightful owner.

While I believe it’s appropriate to return items to the people they belong to, I also believe the family that turned the money in should have received something for their good deed. Sadly all they received was a new box of crackers. Now that would be my luck.
