Where am I?

I'm the type of driver that needs to know where I'm at on the road, how long I'm going to be on that road, where I need to turn and how far away my destination is from where I'm at that moment. In other words, I'm a GPS manufacturers dream.

Don't know what a GPS is? Don't worry, I don't think you're alone. Before I got mine I knew what they did but only a little bit.

GPS stands for Global Positioning System and there are tons of different kinds out there. The one I have is a Garmin-Nuvi 255w and it rocks! It's mounted on my dash just below my radio so it doesn't affect my line of sight and it talks to me so I don't have to concentrate on it while I'm driving. The screen is easy to see and it's easy to use.

Before I start driving, I put in the address of my destination and it does all the work for me. It really came in handy the other day when I went to a bridal shower. I was following my sister in law and she thought she knew the way but we ended up lost. I put the address in and it took me right to the shower..it was awesome!

And here's a fun little bonus, you can go to the Garmin website and download different voices and vehicles directly to your device! We downloaded a hearse and a skeleton hand with a mad scientist voice for Halloween, a turkey for Thanksgiving and a rocket sled with a snowman voice for Christmas. So far the Halloween voice has been a crack up. On my way home from the shower, I was on a long road and it told me "You drive as if your life depends on it and you should. Bwahahaha". LOL It was super funny and made my trip home alone more fun!

You can also touch the "Where Am I?" button on the screen and it will tell you exactly where you are, where the closest intersection is, where the closest hospital is and the closest police station. It's very handy.

You want one don't you. I know you do. Well get you one! You can get it for right around a hundred bucks. That's completely worth my peace of mind. How about yours?

Tidbits

I thought today I'd just give you a few tidbits that are crossing my mind.

First, we lost two actors on the 11th: Kevin McCarthy and Harold Gould.

Kevin McCarthy was 96. He died of natural causes. He acted in several movies including Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Death of a Salesman, The Misfits and Innerspace. He also appeared in several television shows.

Harold Gould was 86. He died from prostate cancer. He was a television actor known mainly as his roles of Martin Morgenstern on Rhoda and The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Miles Webber on The Golden Girls.

May they both Rest In Peace.

Speaking of television, it is the season for several of my favorite shows.

Big Brother's season finale was on last Wednesday. Hayden, the 24 year old college student from Arizona, won the half million dollars. I wanted Lane to win but eh, what can I do? Nada! Actually if we really got honest, I would have liked to have seen Lane and Enzo in the final two and possibly Enzo winning. Ok, honesty, I slipped there for a minute...I wanted Lane to win it all!! Since I didn't talk about Big Brother this year, I guess I should leave it at that.

That same night, Season 21 of Survivor premiered. Woohoo! I really enjoyed it. They have the tribes separated into old (40 and over) and young (30 and under) and guess who is on the old tribe....

C'mon, guess...

I'll bet you'll never get it.

Well, maybe if you're a big fan like I am you WILL...

It's JIMMY JOHNSON!!! Yes, the famous football coach Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy Johnson who coached both the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins. Jimmy Johnson who is one of only two coaches to win both a college national championship AND a Super Bowl! I am psyched and can't wait to see how he does on the show! Although he is an older man now (67) and wasn't doing too well physically after setting up camp, I'm still hoping he does a great job! I'll just have to keep watching and see for myself.

Of course, there is no problem with my continuing to watch. I've been a loyal fan since Season 1. I'll just have to remember that they've moved to Wednesday's.

I guess that's about all the rambling I'm going to do today. I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend!

A day we can't forget

I'm writing this at nearly 10:00 p.m. on September 10, 2010. When I get out of bed in the morning, it will have been 9 years since the bombing of the Twin Towers.

I remember clearly where I was when I heard the news. I was sitting in my car waiting for my obstetrician to open so that I could have my check up. Sadly, a little over a month later, I was no longer pregnant and my son was dead.

September 11, 2001 was a devastating day for me personally and for our country. I try to keep my political views to myself, but thinking about that day and thinking about the state our country is in today, I can't help but be scared for our future.
