Halloween laws

Trick or Treat (TV series)Image via Wikipedia
Did you know that in most places in the United States, on Halloween, children may only “trick-or-treat” from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and if Halloween falls on a Sunday, they must “trick-or-treat” on October 30 during this same time interval?

Yep, it's true. Read on to see some other Halloween & rest-of-the-year weird laws I found...

Spellcheck, please

I'm a big nerd and I'm the first one to tell you about it. I am a word nerd. I have the worst time reading things that are full of misspelled and misused words. I can admit I have a problem. I just can't help it.

I'm not just picking on bloggers here. I've found typos, misspelled words and misused words on sites like Yahoo News & CBS too. Tim always laughs at me when I point them out (usually with a shout of "Don't they have editors?!?!?!?!?") but it's something that REALLY bothers me.

Now before you start thinking that I'm being conceited or that I think I never make mistakes, let me tell you how I HAVE made mistakes. I've been so tired when I've written a post that I used OUR for ARE. I misspell words. I even misspelled y'all for years and years (I always put the apostrophe in the wrong place: ya'll. And I'm not exaggerating: YEARS.)

BUT.

I read and reread my posts to look for mistakes like the our/are switcheroo. I use spellcheck both as a feature of my browser (Firefox underlines words that are misspelled) and on my new post editor. That's here:

(By the way, Firefox says that both switcheroo and spellcheck are misspelled. That makes me crazy.)

Want to know the reason behind this rant today? Because there was a typo in a story I read on ABC this morning. It was a there/they're/their typo. I had one of my freak out moments. I'm better now that I've written this. Sometimes you just need to vent you know.

In the zone

I have issues. Writing issues. I want everyone to read everything I write....but not while I'm writing it. I get weirded out. I can't keep writing. I lose my train of thought and just want to quit. There's something wrong with me.

The other day I was writing my blogs and we had company. I was in the other room from our company and in my own little world, writing like crazy. Then they* decided to come see what I was doing. They asked me what I was doing. I replied, writing. Then they leaned over in front of me and started reading what I was writing. I panicked.

I don't know if it's a thing about my personal space. I do have issues with that. I think it's more of a thing with my personal thoughts and getting them here.

Now I know that once they are here they are no longer personal. They are for everyone to read. That's fine with me. Like I said, I WANT everyone to read them. What I have a problem with is people reading them before I hit 'publish post'.

Is that normal? Does anyone else feel that way? I mean I totally felt like I was suffocating. It was an all out panic attack.

BECAUSE MY WORDS WERE BEING READ BEFORE I PUBLISHED THEM.

I don't think that's normal. Please tell me it's normal. Please tell me you feel the same way at least every now and then. I just want to know.

*I don't want to say who it was because I can't bear to hurt anyones feelings. I don't know if that's normal either.
