Keep your babies safe this Halloween

No, I'm not talking about your children. I'm talking about your dog. Dogs have a hard time at Halloween for many reasons. I got my daily Dog Crazy Newsletter from PetPlace.com and I think they summed it up very nicely. Read on.

Another animal ruled by human laws

First a monkey got sentenced to rehab. Now a dog is being sentenced to good citizen classes. Yes he is. I swear.

A pit bull named Winston in Chattanooga Tennessee decided he didn't like the way a police car looked and wasn't afraid of the consequences. He attacked the car, biting the bumper and tearing off a section of it and then went to work on the tires.

He went to court where the judge declared him "a very bad dog" and sentenced him to obedience and canine good citizen classes.

And don't think he'll get out of the prison uniform...he has to wear a tag now that declares him to be "potentially dangerous". Ya think?

The owner of the dog won't be penalized if Winston completes his classes successfully. Um, is there a test? I guess they could put him in the yard with another police car and see what happens.

Or maybe they could just hook him up as the new McGruff...

Marmaduke would be jealous

You know who Marmaduke is right? The cartoon dog. Well, if you don't, he is a Great Dane. And very large. They can draw them as big as they want to ya know. A real dog would never be that big. No way. Well, maybe..

If he was a giant.

Or if he was named Giant. Giant George to be specific.

Four year old Giant George is now listed as the Guinness Book of World Records tallest dog. He measures in at 3 feet, 7 inches tall from paw to shoulder and weighs 250 pounds. All I can think is WOW. That's a lot of dog.

I sure did miss you!

I'm back!!!! I don't know if you're as excited as I am (I'm pretty darn excited!!) but I'm here again...yay!

I'm here again because my brother-in-law turned the internet back on for me :) He had his reasons (and I'll tell you about them in just a second) but it's super nice for me at the same time! I missed y'all TONS!

His reason? He started a new business and decided he needed 1. a website, 2. someone who knows about the internet (me!) and 3. someone who could take care of the email stuff (me again!). So thanks to Mike I'm back!

I only think it's fair that I tell you about his business since he was nice enough to hook me up :D

Yes, I know that's a dog with poop behind him LOL That's his business. Cleaning up dog waste. I think it's actually something that's needed.

Did you know that dog waste is toxic? According to Wikipedia, "Toxocara canis eggs in dog feces can cause toxocariasis. In the United States, about 10,000 cases of Toxocara infection are reported in humans each year and almost 14% of the US population is infected. In Great Britain, 24% of soil samples taken from public parks contained Toxocara canis eggs. Untreated toxocariasis can cause retinal damage and decreased vision. Dog feces can also contain hookworms that cause cutaneous larva migrans in humans."

So, you see, it is a necessary business. If you'd like to check out his website, click here.

If you live in Georgia, specifically in the Atlanta/Athens area, and are interested in using this service, you can email Mike at mikebrakhage@yahoo.com or give him a call at 678-863-4971.

Work can be "ruff"

Photobucket

I've heard that dogs can help people through all kinds of things. They are used to cheer up terminally ill patients. They are used to find things. They are used to aid the handicapped. They are even used to ring up sales...

Wait. What?

That's right. A chocolate lab named Cody "works" the drive-through window at a Clearwater Florida gas station. His owner originally brought him to his store to keep him company during the early morning hours. The dog was such a hit with customers that he's been "working" the drive-through window for 5 months now. He even wears one of the gas station logo t-shirts and a name tag. When a customer pulls up to the window, Cody pops up on his hind legs to greet them. Now that's something I would like to see! I hope Cody gets to continue his "job" for many years.

A bunch of crap

Sometimes my sense of humor is in the toilet... (You realize I meant that literally right?) Tonight it's triple strength. I'm sorry ahead of time.

A North Carolina woman had a very bad day on Friday. She had $400 in cash that she planned on depositing in the bank but it was instead deposited in her dog. That's right, her greater Swiss mountain dog ate it. He was adding some ruff-age to his diet...

It worked too because when the woman took her dog for a walk, the money um, showed back up. She gathered up the pieces of three $100 and five $20 bills and washed them off with the garden hose. She's hoping to get enough pieces back to turn it in to the bank and get her money replaced. Surely they have some kind of recycling program at the bank...

Oh yes, and according to the story I read "A professor at the North Carolina State University Veterinary School said the money shouldn't hurt the dog." I know that's what I'd be worried about.

*****************************

Let's move this conversation inside. Ok, sort of inside...Port-a-Potty kind of inside. I'll even provide you with some music. Do you like Bob Dylan?

Oh, wait, I forgot to tell you that people in Malibu are complaining about Bob Dylan's Port-a-Potty(s). Specifically they're complaining about their smell. Yep, Bob Dylan is stinkin' up the joint! We may not want to go to his place after all...

His neighbors, Cindy and David Emminger, said that the toilet fumes are being carried by breezes from the Pacific Ocean and making their family ill. David Emminger said "Mr. Civil Rights is killing our civil rights!"

Wow. Bummer. Totally dude.

Ok, now that the hippie is out of my system, I'm thinking we should hook Bob Dylan up with Clorox. They're having quite the Port-a-Potty issue themselves right now.

Just down the road in San Franscico, somebody has torched more than two dozen construction site toilets and caused an estimated $50,000 in property damage. Clorox isn't having it. They want it to stop.

They want it to stop so badly that they're willing to pay. It's true. They're offering $5000 PLUS (and this is the best part if you ask me but I'm a clean freak)
a year's supply of toilet cleaning products for tips leading to the arrest of "San Francisco's notorious portable potty pyromaniac". (I totally admit I was rolling on the floor at that nickname. If you really think about it, that's a lot of pee's...)

Ahem, sorry.

*All puns in this story were completely intentional :D

How many dogs can you fit in a car?

Apparently 22.

In the town of Pottsboro 70 miles north of Dallas Texas constables discovered just that. 22 dogs crammed into a station wagon. Oh, don’t let me forget that the woman who owned the car was inside too.

Officers at the scene of the discovery said that the lady was not coherent and seemed to be in need of mental health care. She locked herself in the car with the dogs when they tried to serve her with a warrant to remove the dogs from her possession.

According to the SPCA of Texas rescue and investigations supervisor the ammonia level in the car was twice the level that humans can withstand without having health issues. Because of all the urine and feces that were present in the station wagon, the ammonia level was 23 parts per million and the average person experiences health problems at 12 parts per million. How could she even breathe?

The 20 dogs and 2 puppies were taken to an animal shelter and are being cared for until a hearing on the 16th of this month. The custody of the animals will be decided at that hearing. Adult Protective Services was contacted to help the woman. I feel sorry for all of them. The dogs, the lady, the officers that had to do something with that mess you know was in the car and the shelter that now has 22 extra mouths to feed.
